On hikes, and not only, many take a small disposable gas canister with them. But its price is impressive. To save money, we will teach you how to fill gas cartridges from large propane cylinders. This is 10-20 times cheaper than buying a new can.

Materials for work
In order to fill the gas cartridge, you will need:
- propane tank;
- empty gas cans
- steelyard;
- short hose;
- two clamps;
- fitting for a propane cylinder;
- two nuts with left-hand thread.
Step 1. We prepare cans for refueling
We completely release the remaining gas from small cylinders by pressing a screwdriver on the fitting. We monitor when the gas stops coming out so that air does not get into the cylinder.

Weigh each cylinder using a steelyard to avoid propane overflow. We also pay attention to what weight of gas the cylinder is designed for, most often it is 220 g. That is, the final mass is equal to the sum of the weight of the empty cylinder plus 220 g of propane.

Step 2. Making an adapter for refueling
We install two left-handed nuts on the propane tank along with the fitting. It can be machined on a lathe.

We attach a part from the burner to the hose and be sure to fix the pipe with clamps. Also, the hose should be short to avoid heating the propane.

We put the propane tank on its side so that the gas is supplied in a liquid state, and not in a gaseous state. We put the other end of the hose on the fitting.

We prepare a large propane tank for use by purging the hose to avoid air ingress. We unscrew the valve of the cylinder and release a little gas.

Step 3. Filling the cans
We attach the can to the hose and open the valve to the full. The cylinder can be flipped perpendicular to the ground to allow more gas to enter.

When we feel that the canister has become heavier, we disconnect it and weigh it. We pay attention to point 2, and we understand whether it is filled to the maximum or not. If not, then we need to cool it down. With this manipulation, propane will become liquid and will take up less space, which will allow more gas to be pumped in. If there is no refrigerator, simply press the fitting with a screwdriver, releasing gas.

The tank is filled with propane and is ready to use.
