A simple inhabitant is available only single-phase electricity. For domestic needs, this is quite enough, but devices with a power of more than 2.2 kW require a three-phase connection. Powerful motors are usually connected to a single-phase network through capacitors.
However, with this connection method, there is one significant drawback - a significant loss of power. To avoid this, you can make a three-phase voltage from a single-phase voltage in 3 minutes using a homemade phase splitter.

What is needed to obtain a three-phase voltage?
Firstly, you will need a three-phase electric motor with a power greater than at least 30% than that of the connected equipment. So, for example, to connect a 3 kW compressor, an electric motor of at least 4.5 kW is required. More is better.
A package switch and a capacitor are also needed to facilitate the start of the lead motor.
Wiring diagram
The leading electric motor (phase splitter) is connected to a 220 V network - the connection method (star, delta) does not matter. The start is made through the capacitor C \u003d 100 microfarads.
Further, three-phase equipment is connected to the contacts of the windings of the leading motor through a batch switch - the connection scheme (star or delta) does not matter.
This scheme is elementary, but it works quite stably.
System start
We apply a voltage of 220 V to the first (leading) engine through capacitors - they make it easier to start. It is possible without them, but then it is necessary to give primary movement to the motor shaft.
Within a few seconds, the electric motor shaft will gain torque, after that, if the start-up was carried out with capacitors, then we turn them off.
On the windings of the leading motor, a three-phase voltage of about 200 V was formed: on two of 200, on one about 190 V.
We turn on the package switch - the driven electric motor started up without problems. Everything works great.
The scheme can be modified if necessary. By the way, to stabilize the work, i.e. to smooth the load, you can equip the first engine with a heavy flywheel, which will not allow the load to sag.

Conclusion
This simple method was known back in the 60s of the last century. What has been mentioned more than once in the specialized literature: MK magazine, an article by Sinyov, No. 4, 1972. This material discusses options for adjusting the voltage for all phases.

Install a three-phase meter and save more on electricity
What is the efficiency of this bulky design
Vladimir, I'm sure many will not agree with you! This solution is for temporary and event use. How long does it take to install a three-phase meter?
I confirm! This design has been in operation for about 10 years. Everything is powered at home: from a weak grinding to a circular with a 3 kW engine. The main thing is not to overload the engine-generator.
Due to one consumer (circular for example), it is not always convenient to install a 3-phase meter. Firstly, electric networks will require a project that will be coordinated for half a year. Then the financial part - wires, meter, installation / connection. And this option is very workable. About 15 years ago, they launched a circular. A large motor was just lying in the yard and the power was 2 times more. It was warming up, but on the circular it worked like from 3 phases and was cold. As for the flywheel, I liked the idea, I could try it.
They say that there are such devices (starters, switches, phase inverters), I don’t know how much they cost, but if a three-phase asynchronous motor is lying around (right?), It will come out many times cheaper (as a temporary solution)
But! It's not economical to spend extra. energy to rotate an empty engine ...
It is better to sell the engine, and buy an inverter with this money.
It was necessary to start a wood splitter from 220 volts, a 1.5 kW motor, connected it into a triangle and launched it through a frequency converter, which I bought at ALI for 4500 rubles. Frequency converter for 2.2 kW.
And do not fence all this nonsense! In addition, the chastotnik is programmed for any modes, the speed is regulated from 0 to maximum without loss of torque !!! Reverse is also present!
The circular has been working like this for a long time. Engine 1.1 kW. The generator is connected in star mode, it increases the voltage. It cuts boards by 60 mm quickly. Excellent!
Why TWO engines? Immediately put the capacitor on the desired motor and everything ... works !!! connect any three-phase device to a single-phase network through a capacitor and there are no problems!!!
Any engine can be run through phase-shifting capacitors. The second engine is useless.
