In the old days, he worked as a mechanic in a boarding house. And the most common work was various manipulations with locks: some lost the keys, while others broke them off in larvae.
In the absence of spare keys, the larvae of the locks were drilled out or simply broken out of the lock, everything was elementary. However, the simplest was this extraction of debris from the castle.
So, the topic of the article is how to get a piece of key from the lock.

Method number 1 - improvised tools

It's not all that scary
The key always breaks flush with the lock cylinder, and therefore it is very difficult to grab a chip and pull it out with pliers.
Therefore, any sharp tool is used: awl, thin slotted screwdriver or ordinary scissors.
To show that this works, I will use scissors.

It is better to use a sharpened tool
With the sharp tip of the scissors we hook on the chip. Almost all larvae in the center have a recess, it is in this place that it is most convenient to make a hook.

The operation was completed in one or two minutes.
Having picked up the remains of the key on the tip of the tool, carefully pull it out. The sharper the tool, the easier it is to remove the key.

Method number 2 - for especially difficult cases

Need a thin drill
However, there are times when the lock is old and the key was inserted into it and pulled out with effort. Then it will not be possible to pick up and pull out in the first way. This will require more serious preparation and a special tool.
Screwdriver and thin drill for metal (diameter 1.5-2mm). The bottom line is to form a recess on the key fragment, for which it is possible to securely capture (hook) the key fragment.
Step number 1 - the formation of a reliable hook

Kern the larva with a drill
To do this, we drill the larva in its center with a drill, stepping back from the fragment 2-3 mm - with a core drill.

Drilling a broken key from the side
As soon as the drill has stopped jumping off, we change the angle of drilling. We drill in the direction of the key fragment so that it is drilled at least 2 mm from its edge.
Step 2 - pull out the chip

We hook the key
Now there is something to securely cling to. We hook sharp tools (in this case, scissors) by the hole and pull out the damaged key.

The obstacle has been removed, now nothing prevents you from opening the door
The chip is removed - the problem is solved. In time, it takes about 2-3 minutes.

Conclusion

The lock is open - the client is satisfied
Legitimate question: But will the lock work after drilling or will it be necessary to change the larva?
Drilling the larva does not affect its functionality in any way, the only thing that spoils is the appearance, and even that is insignificant.
But changing or leaving the larva of the locking mechanism is an individual matter and depends on the state of the lock before the key breaks.
