Materials for work
To sharpen knives, you will need:
- glass or any other mirror surface;
- sandpaper of different grain sizes;
- container with water;
- rags;
- oil for lubricating knives;
- screwdriver.
Step 1. Remove the knives from the machine
We unscrew the screws with a screwdriver and release both knives (movable and fixed).
Step 2. Sharpening knives
If the surfaces of the knives do not have visible scratches and nicks, sharpening can be started immediately with 800 grit sandpaper. Otherwise, start with a coarser one.
Place sandpaper on glass or other mirror surface.
Moisten the fixed knife in a container of water and, putting its flat side to the sandpaper, sharpen it with progressive movements. Movements must be made in the direction in which the movable knife moves. Sharpen only on one side.
We also sharpen a movable knife.
After sharpening both knives, as evidenced by their smooth matte surface, it is necessary to rinse them under running water and change the water in the container.
Step 3 Polishing the Knives
Replace sandpaper with 3000 grit paper.
First, we polish the stationary knife, repeating the points from step 2. As a result of polishing, we should get such a shiny surface.
We do the same with the movable knife.
We wipe the remaining water with a rag and lubricate the knives with special oil, which is sold in any specialized store.
Set the knives in place. If they are sharpened correctly, the machine will cut without skipping hair or scoring.
