Beet is part of many dishes, mainly salads and snacks. In the vast majority of these dishes, the vegetable is used boiled. Boiled beets are softer and more palatable.
However, the process of boiling beets is too long and tedious. It is necessary to constantly monitor it, checking the degree of softening of the vegetable. In addition, if cooking is done in a small container, the option of constantly adding boiling water is not excluded.
And if we take into account that the cooking time can reach 2-3 hours, then we can say with confidence that the preparation of beets will be the longest in comparison with other products.
However, progress does not stand still. With the advent of pressure cookers, it was possible to reduce the cooking time of beets to half an hour. But there is an even faster way to cook beets - use microwave oven. The article discusses how to quickly weld beets in the microwave.

Why cook beets in the microwave?
The usual cooking of beets lasts several hours. At the same time, beet juice is released into the water and many useful substances go with it. This can significantly spoil the taste of the product. Microwave cooking is much faster.
Radiation simultaneously heats the entire volume of the vegetable and the juice simply does not have time to leave the root crop. Thanks to this, all the useful substances remain inside the beets, and it retains its taste properties.
Action number 1 Preparing beets for cooking
To prepare the beets for heat treatment in the microwave, remove the tops from the root crops and wash them. If the size of the beets is too large, it is recommended to pierce the roots in several places so that they do not crack from uneven temperature distribution in different layers.
Action #2 Packaging beets before cooking
To ensure uniform heating of the beets from the inside and outside, it is necessary to create a limited volume around the root crops in which water vapor will circulate. To do this, you can use the usual plastic bag.
A bag of beets should be placed on a porcelain plate, devoid of metal coating. The gold plating on the plate will interact with the microwave radiation, causing sparks and may damage the oven.
After that, beets are placed in the bag.
Beets should be placed in a bag on a plate as compactly as possible.
Next, pour 50-100 ml of water into the bag. The package must be well tied.
Using a skewer or knife, several (5-6) holes are made in the bag. They are necessary to relieve excess water vapor pressure so that the bag does not swell and burst.
Preparation of beets in cooking in a microwave oven is finished.
Action number 3 Boiling beets
A plate with a bag in which the beets are placed is placed in the microwave.
Next, you should set the maximum value of the oven power (at least 700 W) and select the cooking time. This time depends on the weight of the beets.
Recommended cooking times:
- beets weighing up to 500 g - 5 minutes
- 500-700 g - 8 min
- 700-900 g - 10 min
- 1 kg - 12 min
- 2 kg - 15 min
After the power and time are set, the microwave is started.
Action #4 Extracting the beets and checking for doneness
After cooking is complete, the beets are removed from the microwave. When doing this, it is recommended to use an oven mitt or a towel, since the plate and beets will be hot.
Readiness is checked with a small sharp stick. It can be a toothpick or a skewer. If it enters the root crop without resistance, then the beets are ready. If the root crop is still hard, the bag is tied again and sent to the microwave. The operating time is set approximately two times less than previously indicated.
Other vegetables, such as potatoes and carrots, can be cooked in a similar way.
