Materials for work
To make rivet for a knife, you will need:
- two nails of different thickness;
- grinder or saw for metal;
- screwdriver;
- file;
- core;
- hammer;
- acrylic putty;
- sandpaper;
- linseed oil;
- vise.
Step 1. Prepare the rivets
We take two ordinary nails of different thicknesses, picking them up so that one can go into the other.

Do not forget about the aesthetic side of the issue. Using a screwdriver and a file, we give the nail heads a beautiful round shape.

We grind the ends of the nail heads. The irregularities left will be unpleasantly pressed into the palm during the operation of the knife.

We get a beautiful shape of the rivet.

We measure the length of the rivets slightly less than the thickness of the knife handle.

We cut them with a grinder, after holding them in a vise.

For ease of connection, chamfer on the inner rivet.

Kern the outer rivet.

We drill a hole in the rivet, slightly smaller than the thickness of the inner part.

To avoid unpleasant surprises, we check the depth of the hole. It must be greater than or equal to the length of the second rivet.

Step 2. Rivet the knife handle
We insert the outer rivet into the handle of the knife.

Set the rivet in place with a hammer.

Turning the knife over, insert the inner rivet.

We rivet the rivets with a hammer from both sides until they completely enter into each other.

Step 3. Customizing the Knife Handle
Irregularities at the joints are rubbed with acrylic putty on wood.

After the putty has dried, we grind the irregularities on the handle with sandpaper.

To add shine and protection from getting wet, wipe the knife handle with linseed oil.

As a result, we get such a reliable handle.
