Materials for work
In order to to cut a glass bottle, you will need:
- glass bottles that need to be cut;
- 12 V battery;
- a piece of nichrome wire;
- spray bottle or container with cold water;
- paper;
- marker;
- insulated wires;
- cargo;
- pliers;
- sandpaper.
Step 1. Prepare the cut line
Having wrapped the bottle in the right place with a sheet of paper, we draw a line with a marker along the edge of the paper and the bottle at the same time. With this method, you will get a perfectly even line.

We connect one end of the nichrome wire to one of the poles of the battery. We attach a load to the junction to ensure the tension of the wire.

We wrap the bottle with wire along the previously drawn line.

Step 2. Cut the bottle
Raising the bottle up, we stretch the nichrome wire. At the same time, we connect the second end of the wire with pliers to the other pole of the battery and also pull it.

The wire begins to heat up, as evidenced by bright red edges. In places where the wire touches the bottle, the process of heat transfer takes place, so the wire is not so bright.

We warm the glass without loosening the wire for at least half a minute. During this time, the glass will have time to warm up inside.
Then we remove the wire and quickly sprinkle the place of heating with cold water (or lower the bottle into a container of water). The characteristic click of breaking glass is heard. Result on the face.

We cut a square bottle in the same way, trying to ensure maximum contact of the wire with the glass along the cut line.

If, after wetting with cold water, the top of the bottle does not fall off by itself, just gently pull on the neck.

Smooth out irregularities and notches along the edge of the cut with sandpaper. To avoid cuts, all glass handling operations must be carried out with protective gloves.
