All motorists know: drove 25-30 thousand kilometers - replace the candles. But few people think about measuring the resistance of used candles, even new ones. The resistance of candles from 2 to 10 kOhm is considered optimal.
When using candles with high resistance, the fuel in the cylinder will not burn out, which will lead to significant consumption of gasoline. Using spark plugs with lower resistance will cause misfiring, which will also increase fuel consumption.

Work materials
To check spark plugs you will need:
- multimeter;
- internal combustion engine spark plugs from different manufacturers.
Step 1. Prepare the multimeter for measurement
Set the resistance measurement mode to 20 kOhm.

Step 2. We measure the resistance of the candle.
We connect the wires of the multimeter to the central electrode and the contact head of the candle.

Step 3. We fix the readings.
The meter shows a resistance of 6.58 kΩ. This is normal resistance for a good spark plug.

Step 4. Similarly, we measure the resistance on other candles

Some manufacturers produce candles without internal resistance. Such candles are used only in certain types of engines.

Summing up
After checking 5 plugs, we found two resistorless ones that do not fit many types of engines. If you purchased candles from an unknown manufacturer and without marking, be sure to check their resistance. Use spark plugs that match your vehicle's engine.
