Kitchen hood has long been one of the must-have appliances that should be present in every kitchen. The hood not only purifies the air by removing fumes, grease, dust and dirt from the kitchen that appear during cooking. By creating an additional air flow, it helps to remove combustion products from the living space.
Regardless of how this or that kitchen hood is arranged, it always has a coarse filter, made in the form of a fine mesh grille. It is this part of the hood that collects large fractions of dirt and grease.
Over time, it becomes significantly contaminated with them, which adversely affects the functioning of the hood. It reduces performance, which is not surprising - a clogged filter creates a lot of resistance to air flow.
In addition, a grate clogged with oil and dirt is a fire hazard; any spark can ignite the porous oily structure. To avoid possible unpleasant consequences of contamination of the filtration grid, it must be cleaned more or less regularly.
The criterion for cleaning time is quite simple: if the grate has noticeable traces of yellowness, it needs to be cleaned. Cleaning can be done mechanically, however, it is quite laborious. Also, using a metal scraper may damage the grate.
Therefore, they use an alternative method of cleaning using chemicalsthat are in every home. The article describes how to clean the grate from kitchen hood at home.

Required Tools & Materials
To clean the grate, you will need the following components:
- a saucepan or any other container of sufficient volume; it should include at least half of the lattice in height
- unwanted toothbrush
- baking soda
- vinegar
Action #1 Preparing the grate for cleaning
After reading the instructions for the hood, you should remove the dirty grate from it. Usually it consists of two identical rectangular sections.
Step #2 Preparing the cleaning mixture
Take water in a saucepan and bring it to a boil.
Next, add 1 tbsp. l. soda. Baking soda and vinegar react with each other, releasing carbon dioxide.
Action #3 Treatment of the grate in the cleaning mixture
When the reaction is over, the grate is immersed in the container. First, one section is immersed. And then the second one.
The grate should be boiled in water for 5-6 minutes, then take it out and put it in the sink for further processing.
Action #4 Removing Contamination
One of the grate sections should be removed from the container and placed in the sink. At the same time, it should be held with any convenient device (special tongs or pliers, you can simply hold it with gloved hands).
It is necessary to treat the entire surface of the grate with water, which was previously boiled in a soda mixture.
After this procedure, the dirt is removed with a toothbrush.
After the entire surface has been cleaned with a toothbrush, the procedure is repeated for the second section.
Action #5 Removal of residual contamination

Grid prepared for re-boiling. The contaminated part is immersed in the liquid, the cleaned part is outside the liquid
After both sections are half cleaned, they are placed in the same container, but with the other, contaminated side down, and the entire cycle of procedures (boiling for 5 minutes, rinsing with water and brushing with a toothbrush) is repeated again.
