Materials for work
To rubberize metal, you will need:
- a steel strip or other surface (in the example, a bed from a knife sharpener);
- self-adhesive reinforcing mesh for drywall joints;
- masking tape;
- silicone sealant;
- frame gun for sealant;
- degreaser;
- anti-corrosion primer for metal (if the treated surface is subject to corrosion);
- brush, spatula;
- foam sponge;
- hairdryer.
Step 1. Prepare the surface
Degrease the surface to be rubberized with any degreaser.
If the surface is susceptible to corrosion, apply a layer of a special primer to it.
After the primer dries, glue the surface with a reinforcing mesh.

Paste the border of the future rubberized layer with masking tape.

Step 2. Rubberize the surface
Insert the silicone sealant into the gun and apply evenly to the surface to be treated on one side.

Smooth out the layer of silicone with a spatula.

Carry out similar operations, if necessary, with the other side of the surface.
Dry the surface with a hairdryer.

We repeat the process of applying silicone, leveling it and drying it until the silicone completely covers the reinforced mesh.
We apply a little more silicone and with a foam rubber sponge we give it a beautiful matte structure with dipping movements.

After the silicone has completely dried, cut and remove the masking tape. The result is such a beautiful and pleasant to the touch layer.
